Murphysboro Middle School: Putting Waste in its Place

With a focus on energy conservation, the goal of the Murphysboro student-led Eco Action team is to educate students and staff about plastic pollution, waste reduction, energy conservation, and recycling while taking action to make change.

Their project consists of improving the in-school recycling program, bringing awareness to the project by hanging informative posters and sending an e-newsletter every month regarding the project. The purpose of the posters is to educate staff and students about their shared environmental vision while building community. Their vision demonstrates how one person can become an environmental steward and take simple steps in recycling, which accumulates into energy conservation and a healthy environment resulting in environmental justice for all.
