Join Phius Alliance Chicago and Illinois Green Alliance for a guided tour of one of the first targeted Living Building Challenge projects in the Midwest – the first phase of the Cultivate Collective Campus, anchored by the Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC). The facility, opening this fall, includes AGC, an early childhood education center, a fresh food market and café, an urban farm operated by Urban Growers Collective, multiple solar arrays, as well as a federally qualified healthcare facility operated by Esperanza Health Centers.

Also targeting Phius ZERO certification, the project is designed by SMNGA Ltd. (Architect of Record), Farr Associates (Associate Architects) and dbHMS (MEPFP Engineers), among others and was constructed by General Contractor Power and Sergeant Construction (MBE Section 3). This six-acre campus will total nearly 90,000 built square feet upon completion of this and future phases of development which are intended to include future educational, farming and workforce development programming.

The facility is aiming to achieve Net-Positive Energy (105% of annual needs) and Net-Positive Water. High energy efficiency will be achieved through the pairing of highly efficient envelope design and sequencing, energy efficient mechanical systems featuring a geothermal well field and photovoltaic panels. Net-Positive Water will use the integrated set of water collection, conservation, reuse and treatment strategies. The phased occupancy begins in September and will begin monitoring to prove out commissioning and verifications over the coming year as led by Bauman Consultants (CxA).

Join the tour to learn how the project team worked together to create a net-positive project, learn future plans for the campus, and also how this team is continuing to engage and positively impact the surrounding community.
