Academy for Global Citizenship won the Theme of the Year award for the 21-22 cohort of the Illinois Green Schools Project.

Eighth grade students in AGC’s Sustainability Design class conducted a school-wide waste audit and identified ways to improve. Using those results, the students created a guide to explain vermicomposting, and worked in small groups to install vermicompost bins in various classrooms and teach those students and teachers why and how to vermicompost. This project lays the foundation for an annual student-led waste audit and long-term improvements in school sustainability and student awareness.
