About the Sustainability Senior Lead position:

Our dynamic team is seeking a full-time Sustainability Lead integral in leading projects and mentoring emerging professionals. The role encompasses all project types ranging from home renovations to large scale redevelopment projects to technical consulting work (i.e. LEED, Energy modeling, Accessibility, Facade Assessments). The Senior Lead manages high level project strategies and staff conduct. You will be integral in monitoring company expectations internally and externally, proactively communicating to managers any quality concerns. The Sustainability Lead is an independent problem solver geared toward enhancing productivity and solving issues that cut across our project portfolio.

Salary Range:
$75-100k

Key Role Responsibilities:

Sustainability (60% of role):
Conduct basic site visits unaided according to provided guidelines with expert knowledge of Technical Specializations
Lead on design and construction LEED projects, able to review and compile a LEED submittal, and provide final quality check of team’s internal work
Support compiling Monthly reports on budget and productivity using systems thinking to identify trends across projects and initiatives
Conduct basic area take offs and perform quality control on work
Edit and review energy specifications, review provided guidelines and develop relevant specifications
Create detailed analysis of sustainability contributions to the overall project process including: phases, reason being, and project timelines
Complete verification of plans for overarching compliance and manage internal meetings
Develop technical specifications for sustainability goals, proactively manage Client expectations and lead client meetings
Meet all requirements to serve as energy auditor. Perform work within allocated time estimates and lead/distribute work to the project team providing oversight
Provide quality checks and corrections on field reporting
Use sustainable insight to contribute to project ideas and support efforts toward balancing work across the team
Achieve one specialty certification in sustainability or architecture and share insights through internal learning shares at least once a year
Mentors early career staff in various professional aspects

Assessment (20% of role):
Conduct accurate, consistent field measurements using assessment tools (Level, laser measure, etc.), and print corresponding plans and reports
Complete self-review of work quality to manage the overall project and any issues tracking
Follow established schedules, and communicate promptly when issues arise with schedules for on-site assessments
Notice and identify trends as they relate across multiple locations, quality checks, assessors, other staff roles, or in a specialty area of work/focus; provide practical solutions for the broader team
Develop Quality Check reports and consistently monitor overall quality for company expectations and course correct under performing employees; proactively communicate to manager any quality concerns with performance

Architecture (20% of role):
Guide the drawing set and identify specific project needs without supervision
Coordinate consultant information into drawings, with understanding of codes in relationship to buildings
Understand how various drawings are connected across the documents and how one change can impact many other areas; have a strong understanding of HUS standards; implement and maintain drawing requirements/formatting consistency company-wide; review drawings and specifications for conflicts between architecture and other disciplines without oversight
Regularly recommend technical solutions to data problems; identify information to be included within reports with supervision
Familiarity with Technical Specializations, has established NCARB file, and tracks Architectural Professional hours for eventual licensure
Lead construction meetings as HUS representative; resolve issues as they arise during construction without oversight
Manage internal meetings with understanding of the relationship between project schedule, effort, and project costs (internally and externally)
Accurately identify ADD services on a project
Study for architectural exams, and present internally on technical tools/skills at least once a year

Qualifications:

Possess one Architectural or Sustainability focused certification, currently pursuing architectural licensure, and maintain openness to learn
Passion for sustainability and community-minded architecture
Interest in performing swing stage façade inspection (training provided)
Can manage field assessments and reporting with little oversight
Proficient in IESV, Energy Plus/Open Studio, TRNSYS, or similar advanced energy modeling tool
Work well independently and skilled at team collaboration
Strong professional verbal and written communication skills; clearly communicate about delays, errors found in deliverables, and specialization targets within sustainability or architecture
Highly organized and able to keep track of and meet deadlines from multiple projects while remaining adaptable to changing demands and priorities.
Able to spend full days onsite documenting various aspects of a building
Able to lift/carry approximately 10 lbs

Requirements:

7+ years of professional related experience with specific experience with architecture and sustainability projects as the lead contact
Bachelor’s Degree in related field such as architecture/engineering
Experience with submissions of documents for architectural/sustainability projects
Certification with specialty in LEED
Engaged in professional organizations related to architecture and sustainability outside of the HUS Firm
A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits
