Embodied Carbon: Lifecycle Analysis Tools – EPIC, Tally, EC3

Join Illinois Green Alliance for an interactive virtual workshop with Building Transparency staff as they walk attendees through various embodied carbon tools including EPIC, TallyLCA, and EC3.

Please note: This is not meant as an Embodied Carbon 101 session.  Illinois Green will be sending 101 level videos and resources to registered attendees ahead of the event for any prep needed.  Participants will be expected to access the various software tools during the bootcamp and organizers will send details ahead of time for how to sign-up as necessary. 

Agenda:  

• 2:00 – 2:10 PM: Illinois Green and Building Transparency introductions; high level overview of life cycle stages, LCA, and embodied carbon.

• 2:10 – 2:20 PM: EPIC conceptual design stage: using EPIC to understand embodied carbon before having a detailed design.

• 2:20 – 3:00 PM: TallyLCA schematics design and design development: Demonstration of using Tally to make decisions about material substitutions, system comparisons, and for demonstrating benefits of reuse. Examples of documenting intentional reductions for LEED and other certifications.

• 3:00 – 3:40 PM: EC3 construction documents, procurement/bid phase, and as-builts: Using EC3 to inform bid process and incentivize low-carbon procurement. Demonstration of entering materials and quantities, searching for EPDs, and setting baselines. Demonstration of policy compliance filters and reports. Discussion of best practices in incorporating embodied carbon into the procurement process.
