Join Illinois Green Alliance for the next program in our Road to Zero: Summit Tour Series with a deeper dive into the 7 Van Buren project, which will be featured as a case study this year’s
Getting to Zero Summit. Tour the building with project team members from 2:00-3:00 PM or 3:00-4:00 PM.
The 7 Van Buren project is a pioneering net zero Phius SourceZero building that is set to produce as much energy on-site as it consumes annually. This achievement is made possible by a unique solar panel array that doubles as a shade structure over the roof deck. The array conceals high-efficiency mechanical equipment and also creates a dynamic rooftop environment, blending clean energy production with an attractive amenity that offers stunning views of downtown Chicago.
As the first project of its kind in the Midwest, it sets a visual benchmark for future designs aiming for lower carbon footprints. Additionally, the building will consume an estimated 42% less energy than comparable structures, and qualifies for an Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant, showcasing cutting-edge building techniques that can benefit the wider multifamily construction and development market.
The project is set for completion December 2024.
