Madeline Semanisin leads NRDC’s climate and energy work in Illinois, focusing on the development and advocacy of policies that reduce emissions, promote equity, and create a cleaner, more sustainable future. She is passionate about advancing policies for equitable decarbonization in Illinois, with a focus on building decarbonization, clean energy solutions, and a just transition away from gas.
Before joining NRDC, Madeline worked as a staff attorney at Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, where she created and co-led the Missouri Filter First Coalition, which successfully passed the "Get the Lead Out of Schools" bill during the 2021 Missouri legislative session. She also represented and supported local environmental justice groups on issues related to energy burdens, illegal dumping, clean water, and air pollution.
