John Law is an urban designer and sustainability strategist focused on creating more vibrant, equitable, and climate-resilient cities. John joined the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2024 as Director of Cities and Communities, where he is helping advance the organization’s approach to sustainability, equity, and resiliency in our cities and communities through the LEED rating systems.
Prior to his current role, John spent much of his nearly 20-year career as a leader in Skidmore Owings & Merrill’s urban design studio, advising real estate developers and government officials from Chicago to Shanghai. John previously served as an Assistant Commissioner for Chicago's Department of Planning and Design (DPD), leading innovative planning efforts and design excellence initiatives across the city.
