The Sustainability Engineering Manager will play a key role in achieving the company’s environmental sustainability goals and will lead projects and initiatives designed to produce measurable and quantifiable results with a focus including (but are not limited to) energy efficiency, waste generation and recycling, water consumption, green building technology and property performance.
The Manager will form internal and external partnerships to identify, prioritize and implement near and long-term ESG initiatives. The position requires a unique understanding of Medical Office centric buildings and the ability to organize a vision to improve the performance of these assets relative to Ventas ESG goals and objectives. The portfolio comprises 18M sq. ft. of medical office building space and 11M sq. ft. of life science/research space across 31 states. The position will report to the SVP-Building & Engineering and will collaborate with the Ventas ESG team.
Fundamental and Essential:
Research, investigate, and act as the subject matter expert (SME) on industry trends, best practices, and ESG topics.
Collaborate with the Ventas Corporate ESG & Sustainability and Lillibridge Property Management Teams to drive building and portfolio performance goals, including regular communication with engineering, technical and management stakeholders.
Analyze industry trends and evolving technologies to proactively identify areas of opportunity that lead to investments in projects designed to reduce electricity, natural gas, and water consumption.
Coordinate and manage ESG projects and initiatives across national medical office property portfolio in the areas of energy and water efficiency technology deployment and implement operational best practices.
Support Lillibridge Property Management Teams and Building & Engineering in budgeting and prioritization of Energy Conservation Measure Projects
Assist with tracking capital budgets and financial KPI’s for various sustainability projects and initiatives
Serve as the primary interface with related consultants.
Coordinate property-level audits and energy assessments, including ASHRAE, as appropriate.
Support the Director of Procurement in further developing and integrating ESG performance factors in enterprise sourcing initiatives.
Reporting & Disclosure:
Support aggregation, monitoring, review, and verification of property-level building performance data using Engie, EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, Microsoft Excel and other third-party software programs, as well as work with property managers and third-party vendors, to track monthly, quarterly and annual progress towards our environmental goals
Develop ESG communications deliverables, marketing fact sheets, presentations, and training, and participate in other stakeholder engagement activities.
Provide subject matter expertise and support for industry reporting initiatives, such as GRESB, GRI, and TCFD.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental) or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience, with at least 2 years prior experience in sustainability, energy performance/management or ESG, with commercial real estate experience preferred
Ability to perform data analyses and draw meaningful insights
Outstanding knowledge of a wide variety of utility management, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems pertaining to commercial office or medical office buildings.
Ownership of projects, with ability to stay organized while working on multiple projects and cross-functionally.
Strong research, communication and writing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint required; familiarity with Engie, EnergyStar Portfolio Manager and/or QuickBase a plus
