U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Awardees Announced!

The 2020 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Awardees have been selected! We are honored to recognize the College of Lake County and
The Joseph Sears School as the Illinois honorees. Across the country, 39 schools, 11 districts, and five postsecondary institutions are being honored for their innovative efforts to address the three “Pillars” of the program: reducing environmental impact and utility costs, improving health and wellness, and ensuring effective sustainability education.

College of Lake County and The Joseph Sears School are doing innovative work in energy reduction, waste reduction, health and wellness, and environmental education. Due to their amazing efforts, these schools have been recognized on a national level by the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools program.

Congrats to Illinois’ 2020 Honorees

The Joseph Sears School is the prek-12 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools honoree in Illinois. Joseph Sears proved exemplary in its efforts in educating students on the importance of environmental stewardship, completing various renovations to reduce their impact and improve efficiency, and their dedication to the health and wellness of their students and staff.

College of Lake County is the postsecondary U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools honoree in Illinois. College of Lake County has made great strides in
reducing emissions and conserving resources, taking priority in not only physical health of students but mental health as well, and providing effective environmental and sustainability education for their students.
