2017 Annual Members Meeting
Statement from the Board Chair
Chris Dillion; President, Campbell Coyle Real Estate
Representing over 10,000 business leaders, community members and sustainability advocates, we recognize the important role our network has in pioneering the green building movement and making the City of Chicago a global leader in sustainability. By now you have undoubtedly heard about our new strategic plan — the Epic Challenge. Inspired by Project Drawdown, we’re connecting our work at the intersection of the built and natural environments to develop local and regional solutions to address climate change. More importantly, we’re leveraging the strengths of our members, sponsors and partners to advance carbon reduction strategies at a local scale. After consultation with many of our members, volunteers, working groups and sponsors, and as an outgrowth of this two-year strategic planning process with the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that USGBC-Illinois is now officially the Illinois Green Alliance, or Illinois Green for short. Our mission remains the same, as does our role as the local voice of the USGBC community.
The U.S. Green Building Council and LEED have led local market transformation and will always be a hallmark of our portfolio. As Illinois Green, our name better reflects our strategic plan and our expanding programs that bring green building professionals and community leaders together. As the convener of our movement at the local and regional scale, this change positions our organization for growth and better reflects our reach and impact.
In the coming years, we’ll transform 3,500 buildings in Chicago’s neighborhoods. We’ll connect community organizations, faith based groups and residents to our impressive network of professionals. Together, we will advance resiliency and livability at the neighborhood-scale. We look forward to building new alliances with you as Illinois Green.
