The U.S. Green Building Council has announced the 2019 Top 10 States for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The states that made this year’s Top 10 are home to 105 million Americans and the more than 1,100 buildings that certified in 2019 represent more than 312 million gross square feet of space. Buildings that are LEED-certified create healthier spaces for people, use less energy and water, reduce carbon emissions and help create a better standard of living for people.
Illinois is a leader in green building and ranked 2nd on the list. In 2019, 121 projects were certified, representing 3.85 square feet of LEED-certified space per resident.
